Peter Handscomb

A talented junior tennis player, opening batsman and occasional wicket-keeper, Peter Handscomb opted for a cricket career and debuted for Victoria in 2011, scoring a patient 71 at the Gabba. After making his maiden first-class century against South Australia in early 2012, he was handed a full contract with both the Bushrangers and Melbourne Stars for the 2012-13 season and took over the wicketkeeping gloves after Matthew Wade was called into Australia’s Test squad. Following a prolific stint with Victoria, Handscomb eventually made his Test debut against South Africa in Adelaide in 2016 with a half-century, while his maiden Test century came in his second match against Pakistan. The top-order batsman managed to secure an extraordinary record early in his career – he became the first player in Test history to remain undismissed in the first seven innings of his career. Handscomb’s ODI career began in early 2017, with his standout performance being his debut century which helped Australia chase down a mammoth 359 against India in Mohali.

Handscomb had a brief stint with Gloucestershire in 2015, where he honed his technique going up against the more volatile Dukes ball.
